In this work, we see two stories joint as one narrative, both of royal origins – one of
historical nature and the other, mythical. This particular version of ‘The Three Graces’
sculpted by Antonio Canova in 1813 that was originally commissioned for Empress
Josephine, the first wife of Napolean l. ‘The Three Graces’ depicts Zeus’ three mythical
daughters, Euphrosyne (Mirth), Aglaea (Elegance) and Thalia (Youth and Beauty).
The silk scarf is a hand-drawn garment of Vittorio Accornero, commissioned for House Gucci
by Rodolfo Gucci, son of the founder, for Princess Grace Kelly in 1960. Accornero, by hand,
designed and painted 43 different varieties of flowers, plants and insects across 37 different
colours.
