Within this work, we see the dramatic folds of Gian Lorenzo Bernini through his sculpture, ‘Daniel & The Lion’, created in 1657, and the hand-drawn carré of Hugo Grygkar, ‘Les Arms de Paris’, designed and crafted for Maison Hermés in 1954. This particular carré was the very first and most prolific for Hermés.
This particular sculpture depicts the prophet, Daniel, kneeling and praying to God and the lion is a representation of death, Daniel
overcoming this by the grace of God. Maison
Hermés, to some, could be considered the highest of all Houses, taking a God-like position amongst the other brands.
People often willing ‘to die’ for their pieces or praying to come into ownership before they do.
