Ronnie was born near the Kintore Ranges in Western Australia around1943. His family, who lived in the traditional manner, soon moved to Papunya, a community in the Northern Territory known for its quality art. It was in Papunya that Western craft practices were combined with traditional Indigenousimagery for the first time. Ronnie began painting in 1975 after observing the first artists working with acrylic paints and canvas. He soon emerged as one of their major artists. Ronnie’s work reflects his strong ties to his country and Dreaming stories. His work is in the traditional Pintupi style, consisting of simple geometric forms and a restricted palette. Ronnie’s work has been exhibited widely throughout Australia and overseas and is included in many important public and private collections.
