Kristin Coburn is a second generation Australian artist and has been immersed in art from a young age. She combines her art practice with her teaching at the School of Fine Art, Mosman (SoFA) where she is also the Director.

Integration is important and the use of abstract elements sometimes has a surreal outcome. I use associations of colour and objects, perspective and the real to create a context to draw the viewer into an imaginary world. There I use symbols and my imagination alongside painting from life.

“I construct images from a not-fully-formed, felt sense, that doesn’t come to life until the painting is finished. In this way the work emerges from my subconscious and becomes the embodiment of the alchemical, restorative power of art.”
